Walford was born to Colonel Neville Walford (Royal Artillery) and his wife. He was 32 years old and married to Elizabeth Walford.〔(Walford, Gareth Neville ), Commonwealth War Graves Commission〕 Walford was a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery, British Army during the First World War, and was awarded a Victoria Cross for his actions on 26 April 1915 at the V Beach, Gallipoli, Turkey.
